Adventures in Arm Knitting

Lately, I’ve been attempting to arm knit. Please keep in mind that I’ve not even tried to knit since before I was maybe 10?  That being said, Youtube was my friend when it came to learning how to do this.  I have to admit, my first attempt ended up being more of a hammock then a blanket, but after I figured out how tight to keep the yarn and how thick of strands to use, it came out much much better.

During one of my first attempts, this was some of the stitches on my arms.

This was my failed first attempt at making a blanket. It looks more like a hammock than a blanket. I used two number 6 yarns for this and it was way too loose on my arm. Lesson learned.

This was my 3rd attempt. It's like a shawl or a really large scarf. Still comfy. I used 2 number 6 thickness yarns to do this.

Here is a scarf I made. This came out really well.

Behold! My blanket that I'm really proud of! My second attempt used 4 strands thickness of number 6 yarn and it is sooo comfy!!

If you’ve been really considering giving arm knitting a try, you have my vote for yes! It’s super easy, super fun, and doesn’t take much time at all.  The blanket in the last picture took about an hour and a half to make and easily fits on my full size bed.  Just remember: when it comes to arm knitting, chunky is key.  Now I’m off to teach myself how to crochet. 🙂
