So, I had a crappy weekend… and then some scariness at the start of the week. After theshow Friday night, my leg swelled tremendously. It was the start of what would be an old injury flare-up that would scare me. That night, my mom stayed the night at my place since it was so late. I let her sleep in my bed and I slept on the couch, propping my leg up on one of the arms and hoped it would be better in the morning. I ended up not sleeping well because it hurt so badly. By the time my mom woke up the next morning and came out, my leg was still swollen like a balloon and in a lot of pain. So, after she left, I went to my bed, propped it up, and went back to sleep.
Now, I know most people would have gone to the hospital at this point. Somehow, I kinda wish I had. However, I really didn’t think much of it at first. A year and a half ago, I suffered a torn plantaris tendon while at work. I wasn’t able to walk for three months after that, except for physical therapy. I still managed to get out and do things, but my friends and family had to drive me and then push me in a wheel chair and I always had to have my cane. It sucked. My leg at that time was swollen huge, just like it was on Friday and Saturday, so that is why I didn’t think much of it. So, Saturday I ended up laying in bed until 1pm, got up, ate lunch, then laid back down until 6pm when I ordered pizza.
When I woke up on Sunday, the swelling had gone down, but it was still bad. So, after discussing with my best friend, I decided that if it was still bad the next day, I should get it checked. Sure enough, Monday came and with it was continued swelling. My family and friends finally raised my concern over the possibilities of a blood clot, so I finally went to the doctor. Luckily, no blood clot. Thank goodness. Also, he gave me some ways to bring the swelling down.
Tuesday, I woke up with barely any swelling! I was thrilled! My leg was back to normal. Then, late in the day at work, I started to have an asthma attack for the first time in months. So, I took my albuterol inhaler. A few hours later, I was driving to the gas station when an odd sensation slammed into me. My vision went extremely blurry and I started to feel cold. It started from the tips of my ears and then just engulfed me. I started shaking and my heart started racing. I was at the corner of the street where there was an empty lot, so I pulled into there and slammed it into park. I was scared and I felt for a moment that I was going to pass out. I felt my whole body letting go and it terrified me, which I’m sure didn’t help. I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t know if the feeling would pass, or if I should drive to the hospital or call an ambulance. I didn’t know what was going on. I started to wonder if there had been a blood clot and they hadn’t seen it or something. The first thing I could think of was to call my best friend. She’s a nurse. She’d tell me what to do. So, I called and as calmly as I could, I told her what was going on. My vision has stopped being blurry and I no longer felt cold, but I was still freaked out. After some questions, she determined it was due to my inhaler. She told me to relax, eat something, and relax some more. If I still felt funny in the morning, go to the doctor. So, I got gas, went to my boyfriend’s, ate food, and relaxed. By 10 that night, the feelings finally passed. It still had me a bit freaked out, but it passed. If it hadn’t been for my boyfriend, I think I would have remained freaked out to no end.
With the leg swelling then the crazy attack from my inhaler being so close together, I thought I was in some serious trouble. I was absolutely terrified. Valuable lesson learned: when my leg swells that bad, have it check right away instead of freaking out later. Also, I am so incredibly grateful for my best friend! She puts up with me and is always there for me. She’s the sister I never had. 🙂 Today, I’m back to normal. My house is a mess, I have a lot to do, but I’m going to try not to push myself too hard so that my injury doesn’t flare back up. I’d rather take my time and get it done that let the injury flare up and then not be able to do anything for days. I mean, sure. While I was unable to walk, I did make a lot of new chainmaille pieces, but my apartment is still a mess and I need to begin the purge for the garage sale and then moving.
With that all said, that’s been my week so far. I’ll show the new chainmaille pieces soon and also, I’m hoping to add a lot of new things to the etsy store! Tonight I’m going to work on cleaning so I can work on purging my apartment this weekend. After a quick trip to the craft store, of course. :p So much to do, so little time! Thanks for stopping by today and remember: don’t always brush off things that could be serious like I did. I learned my lesson.
